Race Light Policy
Updated and Revised July 2018
Introduction
Road racing can take place in a variety of conditions which includes poor driver visibility of cyclist on the road. As a result the use of a solid rear red light and a flashing white front light are mandated for all road racing events.
Policy
For all open road events (i.e. events not run under a rolling road closure or closed road conditions) sanctioned by Cycling Victoria, competitors must have a solid red light operating on either the seat post or right rear seat stay of their bike. The light must be operational during the entire event and must visible from 200 metres to the rear.
A flashing white front light is mandated by SMCC and to be operational during the entire race.
This policy commenced from June 28 2014 and revised July 1 2018.
Scope
The policy applies to all road racing events taking place in Victoria.
